What is the difference between a retirement home and long-term care in Ontario?

Retirement homes are licensed by RHRA and usually charge private rent. Long-term care homes are licensed by MLTC, have provincial waitlists, and follow the Long-Term Care Homes Act complaint process. They are separate systems with different reporting rules.

Is there mandatory reporting for elder abuse in British Columbia?

B.C. has no general mandatory reporting law for all citizens. Designated agencies under the Adult Guardianship Act may investigate when a vulnerable adult cannot seek help because of restraint, handicap, illness, or other barrier. Financial abuse may also involve the Public Guardian and Trustee.
