Privacy policy

Last updated: August 26, 2026

MyEligible is designed to minimize the information it collects. It does not require an account, sell personal information, run advertising, or track people across websites. This policy explains the limited data that still exists when you use the service.

Privacy at a glance

  • No account or user profile is required.
  • Exact quiz values are not sent to analytics; some tools send broad, non-identifying bands or categories.
  • Analytics uses no advertising cookies and respects Do Not Track.
  • Language, accessibility, and current-session choices are saved in your browser.

Quiz answers and results

The benefits quiz runs in your browser. Your current answers may be kept in this browser's session storage so you can move between the quiz and results in the same tab. MyEligible does not create a server-side user profile from those answers.

The default Copy results link shares a minimized snapshot of matched programs and estimates. It does not include your full quiz answers. Anyone who receives that link can view the snapshot.

If you deliberately choose Share profile answers, the link contains an encoded copy of the answers needed to rebuild the results. Encoded does not mean encrypted: anyone with the link can read or reuse it, and the address may be saved in browser history or service logs. Use that option only when you are comfortable sharing those details. Older profile links may continue to open for compatibility.

Printing or saving the results uses your browser's print tools. Review the destination and file location before using them on a shared device.

Anonymous, privacy-limited analytics

MyEligible records a small allowlist of usage events so it can understand whether pages and tools work, for example, that a quiz was started or completed, a program or official source was opened, or a result category was shown. Events may include the page, language, province or territory, broad device class, and coarse bands or categories used by a tool.

When a community organization shares an approved referral link (for example ?ref=edmonton-library), MyEligible may record only that organization's approved code in anonymous analytics. It does not record client names, quiz answers, or cross-site browsing. Unknown or inactive codes are ignored. Aggregated counts are used internally; very small volumes are suppressed in reporting.

Exact numeric entries such as age, income, household size, earnings, or benefit amounts are not included in analytics events. The full quiz profile is not sent. Analytics events use a temporary random session identifier held in memory, so activity can be counted within a tab without creating a persistent account or cross-site identity.

MyEligible's analytics endpoint may briefly use the requesting IP address to create a rate-limit key that helps prevent abuse. The raw IP address and that key are not written into the analytics event database. Hosting and network providers may separately create standard security or request logs under their own systems.

Cookies and browser storage

MyEligible uses limited functional storage:

  • a functional language cookie and local storage remember English or French;
  • local storage remembers accessibility settings such as contrast and text size;
  • session storage keeps current quiz answers available within the browser tab;
  • session storage may remember an approved organization referral code from a ?ref= link for that tab only (not client names or quiz answers).

MyEligible does not set advertising or analytics cookies. You can remove these choices by clearing site data in your browser. On a shared or public device, close the tab and clear site data when you are finished.

Service providers, partners, and external links

Vercel hosts the website and provides cookieless page-view analytics; it may process standard request and security information. Cloudflare supports the custom event-analytics endpoint, database, and abuse protection. MyEligible configures these services to limit what its application stores, but their infrastructure may process technical information needed to deliver and secure the site.

Links to government agencies and other organizations open services with their own privacy practices. MyEligible cannot control what those external sites collect.

Partners or funders cannot receive quiz answers, change eligibility results, buy placement, or weaken the privacy rules described here.

Your choices and controls

MyEligible respects the browser's Do Not Track signal by skipping its custom analytics events. See our step-by-step guide for popular browsers to turn DNT on. Privacy tools or content blockers may also block analytics; the core quiz and guides should remain usable.

You can use the site without an account, avoid optional profile-sharing links, clear browser storage, or contact MyEligible without providing information beyond what you choose to include in your message.

Contact, changes, and questions

If you email MyEligible, the email address and details you choose to send are processed by the email service and used to answer or manage the request. Do not include sensitive information that is not needed.

This policy will be updated when the service or its data practices materially change. Questions, correction requests, or privacy concerns can be sent to matthew@myeligible.ca.
