What is changing

Beginning September 13, 2026, Manitoba will eliminate the family contribution and the non-subsidized daily fee for families approved for the Child Care Subsidy. Manitoba describes this as making licensed child care free for eligible families who receive an approved subsidy. Families still need to meet program rules and apply.

What this does not mean

Not all Manitoba child care automatically becomes free. A family must qualify for and receive subsidy approval. Care generally must be provided through an eligible licensed centre, nursery school or child care home. Unlicensed care is not covered.
